I love Virginia Tech sports! Will I get to cheer for the Hokies?
We are a competition only team. So, yes, you'll get to cheer for the Hokies...in
the stands!
Do you allow guys on your team?
No, sorry, we are an all-girl team.
I really want to tryout for this team but my tumbling is a little rusty. What should I do?
The gym we practice at (see the "Our Gym" tab) offers college open gym nights
on Tuesday evenings from 7:45pm-8:45pm. It's a totally relaxed environment so
don't worry if you're still trying to perfect your forward roll--no one's judging.
There are certified spotters available, and it's only $6!
What if I can't make it to tryouts?
Many girls are out of state and have a hard time making it to tryouts. If you
absolutely cannot make it to tryouts, you may send in a video tryout. The
video may be a home made video in which you show a toe touch, side hurdler,
pike, standing tumbling, running tumbling, and a few stunts showing your
versatility, OR it may be a video of a competition you've performed in with a
detailed description of where you are and what you're doing in the routine.
What should I wear to tryouts?
You want to wear what is functional for an athletic sport. Most girls wear a t-shirt
or sports tank top with cotton shorts. Flyers are encouraged to wear spandex shorts underneath their cotton shorts. We do not require cheerleading shoes, but they
are recommended, especially if you are trying out as a flyer. Please have your hair
pulled back.
Will I be trying out on a spring floor or a dead mat?
Although we compete at one competition with a dead mat, we practice and
compete majority of the time on a spring floor. Therefore, you will tryout on
a spring floor.
How many competitions do you go to per season?
On average, we schedule four competitions between January and March.
Can I be on this team and be in a sorority?
Yes, in fact many of our members are involved in other activities. However,
time management is essential.
